With all the peaks and well, mostly valleys in the economy worldwide its important that we do all we can to promote and sustain the LGBT community in Second Life as a vibrant and active presence.

With that in mind, I'm posting this reminder to everyone that we have a valuable resource available as a tool for staying connected and ensuring that everyone has an opportunity to lease, rent or own properties in LGBT/LGBT-friendly estates.  The Gay Land Office, located on the GA Sim of Thira !   If you are seeking a rental space, be it residential, commercial - or an entire region, this would be the place for you to see them listed and easily pick up information about each as well.

If you are a Sim Owner/Manager on an LGBT/LGBT-friendly region in Second Life, you are invited to visit and list your rentals entirely FREE.  Be SEEN and keep your occupancy levels high.  Contact office manager,  Handsome Scribe in-world for assistance with your listing.

The Gay Archipelago is a proud sponsor of the Gay Land Office and LGBT ventures across the grid.  Together WE CAN!

The end of the year, 2011 marks the end of a busy and active 6 months since the last activity report was filed.  The current Council Team was faced with the immediate challenges and turmoil of situations such as the sudden disappearance of multiple estates as they left for another grid, the ‘retirement’ of Fabrice Snook, the world economic situation (yes, it does impact SL), and the continuing uncertainty behind and subsequent shifting of the ‘appointed’ leadership of this second half-year Council Team of 2011.

As the last active administrative member of this current term of the Council Team, I have taken it upon myself to file this half-year report to better inform you on the status of activities and projects which fell into this last half of the year.

GROUPS:  As GA Groups manager/moderator, I am pleased to report that membership numbers have remained steady in both the GAY ARCHIPELAGO (2600 +-) group as well as the GA Events Info Group (733 +-).

Dom Bamatter has asked me to publish his open letter to the Lindens concerning the sale of several of his sims and the disappearance of the sims after the sale was finalized. This included the virtual property of the citizens who were living and working on these sims. A rollback would give these tenants a chance to reclaim their virtual goods. I post this not only out of respect for Dom but also for the LGBT brothers and sisters of the GA who have been affected by this situation. The letters follow:
Good Morning Betsy,

As you may know by now. I sold 19 sims to ZoHa Boa of ZoHa Islands yesterday.
See attached list.

It had been agreed between us that no sims would be moved, the tenants would stay.  The perfect solution. Again see attached.  When I checked in last night, the GA was in total Chaos.  I emailed ZoHa this am. to see what had happened. I am suggesting a roll back to him.  I can’t imagine this is what he wanted, having tenants was a major reason for the purchase.

This matter is, I believe out of my control, except to appeal to him.

Dom Bamatter

When Dom approached me about the position of chairman for the GA I was hesitant. I am not a sim owner, not even a premium member of SL. To my knowledge I am not very well known within the GA. How can I properly represent the GA? I then realized the GA is no longer just a chamber of commerce for LGBT sim owners but an actual community -there are now over 2600 members in the main GA group. These are not all 'land barons' but citizens of the Gay Archipelago. These avatars -along with countless others that have not identified with the GA, have chosen to work and play within our borders . Because of this strong population we have become the leading voice in LGBT issues within SL and as a liaison to Linden Labs.
So where do we go from here? Luckily we have long term goals that were set by the previous council. Working with the Lindens to move once again to expand our land mass and population, planning events to strengthen our community and, further develop our community centers and increase funding to cover more of their costs.
The GA is filled with business owners, hobbyists and, recreational users. Making sure all of these citizens have their voices heard and their needs met are the goals of this next Council term. With these goals in mind I gladly accept the role of Chair of the Gay Archipelago for the second half of 2011. With the help of the citizens of the GA -by voicing concerns in a dignified way and by answering the call of service to solve those concerns- I hope make the GA and the LGBT community of SL stronger during my term.

Sincerely

Erik van Haller

- Our great friend, Dom Bamatter, had to sell several of his sims. As of today, almost all of them have found new owners to maintain them. It provides nice opportunities to rename/relocate them, if needed, within the GA. A fresh new start for many of us.

- The LGBT Agora Center, located in Wayfarer Island, is one of the priorities of the new GA Council Chairman. This information center, unique in Second Life, is a wonderful gateway to many LGBT places and organizations. Contact : Draghan Marksman

- Yesterday two new sims have arrived in the GA : Romanum V - Romanum Estate is a vibrant success story;) - and Colibri Island, a new lesbian german sim. Congratulations, warm welcome and best of success to them !!

- In the coming weeks, our japanese friends from Tou-Gen-Kyo will finally officially move to the GA with a new sim. Time to learn few japanese words !;)

Official announcements soon by the new Council. Keep an eye on this space !
