‘What we call the beginning is often the end…..And to make an end is to make a beginning’ - T.S. Eliot

The end of the year, 2011 marks the end of a busy and active 6 months since the last activity report was filed.  The current Council Team was faced with the immediate challenges and turmoil of situations such as the sudden disappearance of multiple estates as they left for another grid, the ‘retirement’ of Fabrice Snook, the world economic situation (yes, it does impact SL), and the continuing uncertainty behind and subsequent shifting of the ‘appointed’ leadership of this second half-year Council Team of 2011.

As the last active administrative member of this current term of the Council Team, I have taken it upon myself to file this half-year report to better inform you on the status of activities and projects which fell into this last half of the year.

GROUPS:  As GA Groups manager/moderator, I am pleased to report that membership numbers have remained steady in both the GAY ARCHIPELAGO (2600 +-) group as well as the GA Events Info Group (733 +-).

(continued, pg. 2)

- Our great friend, Dom Bamatter, had to sell several of his sims. As of today, almost all of them have found new owners to maintain them. It provides nice opportunities to rename/relocate them, if needed, within the GA. A fresh new start for many of us.

- The LGBT Agora Center, located in Wayfarer Island, is one of the priorities of the new GA Council Chairman. This information center, unique in Second Life, is a wonderful gateway to many LGBT places and organizations. Contact : Draghan Marksman

- Yesterday two new sims have arrived in the GA : Romanum V - Romanum Estate is a vibrant success story;) - and Colibri Island, a new lesbian german sim. Congratulations, warm welcome and best of success to them !!

- In the coming weeks, our japanese friends from Tou-Gen-Kyo will finally officially move to the GA with a new sim. Time to learn few japanese words !;)

Official announcements soon by the new Council. Keep an eye on this space !

The GA WeBlogs has done a spectacular jump of traffic - more and more visitors each week. Half a million pages views, milestone celebrated on april 15th.

April Report

The Gay Archipelago family grows, and grows and grows...

Today there are 147 sims and 44 estate owners sharing the same area. Further expansions are planned and the question is: which sim will be 150th in the coming weeks?

For an estate owner, what are the main advantages for a move to the Gay Archipelago, in other words, to become a GA co-owner?

The GA has grown from friends, and friends of friends coming into the area. Some have chosen to connect their sims with others, some have kept sea around themselves.

There will be the first 2011 meeting of the GA Council Team - open to everyone*

My fellow Archipeligonians, My friends, My Gay brothers and sisters from around the world as this year draws to a close and the gift of another year is bestowed upon us, I wonder how we will use it.  I have a wish and a hope for this New Year.  I hope to see us all draw closer together in a renewed bond of fellowship.  As the gay community moves forward on all levels of society from our local towns, across our nations, and around the world we see that we have accomplished much together.  Together we have, in many parts of the world, fought for and won greater freedom and civil rights.  More places recognize and respect our unions, and our marriages.

Not all of us have been so lucky; in many parts of the world oppression still exists.  Civil rights nonexistent and some nations still put us to death for existing.  But when I look at the progress that has been made I ask myself how was the progress made.  The answer comes back, by sticking together by being a solid and cohesive group. Our progress has been made together.  We learned a valuable lesson. Together we are strong; together we have a voice, a voice that is heard by local government and by National leaders alike.  We are a socioeconomic group.

Acting as a group last year we were able to bring about free moves for estates within the GA and for estates to be moved into GA for free.  In the coming year I hope to see greater strides made by once again acting together with our one voice.  To use a much beloved term the voice of “Solidarity”
