‘What we call the beginning is often the end…..And to make an end is to make a beginning’ - T.S. Eliot

The end of the year, 2011 marks the end of a busy and active 6 months since the last activity report was filed.  The current Council Team was faced with the immediate challenges and turmoil of situations such as the sudden disappearance of multiple estates as they left for another grid, the ‘retirement’ of Fabrice Snook, the world economic situation (yes, it does impact SL), and the continuing uncertainty behind and subsequent shifting of the ‘appointed’ leadership of this second half-year Council Team of 2011.

As the last active administrative member of this current term of the Council Team, I have taken it upon myself to file this half-year report to better inform you on the status of activities and projects which fell into this last half of the year.

GROUPS:  As GA Groups manager/moderator, I am pleased to report that membership numbers have remained steady in both the GAY ARCHIPELAGO (2600 +-) group as well as the GA Events Info Group (733 +-).

Looking in the profile of Jimmy Warbaum - Mayor of the Norwegian themed estate Tromsoe - you find this.
When I was an young Elf..
Living in Asgard Kingdom...

Þat kann ek it tolfta,
ef ek sé á tré uppi
váfa virgilná,:
svá ek ríst ok í rúnum fák,
at sá gengr gumi
ok mælir við mik

It is sad to hear, that Jimmy is leaving Second Life for medical and personal reasons. He got more and more problems with his hands and communicated mostly in voice chat with his friends and residents. Jimmy builded a fjord sim with a copy of the arctic church of Tromsoe. A sim of real beauty; giving you an idea of the nature of this North European country. Jimmy is a remarkable man, modest and helpful. I am sure his friends , residents and all who met him, will miss him and his peaceful sim. Jimmy, on behalf of your friends, I wish you the best in the future and thank you for your friendship.

'Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.  Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.'  - Margaret Mead

In my ongoing efforts to provide updated information to GA Sim Owners, Managers and residents, I am addressing this letter today, October 21st, 2011 to all.  I will attempt to be clear, concise and as brief as possible and present NEW information regarding deadlines.
1)  The 'Moving Train'/'Big Move' concept involving the move of the GA to reorganize and optimize space has changed over recent times:
- LL will no longer provide the GA 'no fee' moves.
- Fee for sim move = $150usd per sim ($L30,300.00 as of today).
- LL will not prevent 'non-LGBT' sim placement next to existing GA sims or within the existing GA structure.  That issue of 'reserve/protection' was never agreed to
(or documented) by LL representatives in past GA sim-moving negotiations.
2)  Several GA sims/estates are unable to expand in their current location as the grid is 'locked-up' ... and there are also Owners/managers/residents alarmed by the                       placement of 'non LGBT sims' nearby their current location.  The GA is unable to 'manage' the open spaces and shuffling of sims given the prohibitive
costs involved.
3)  LL has presented an alternative offer of creating a 'Reserve' area for the GA.  They are willing to guarantee that there will be no 'non-GA approved' sims moved into such         an area - thus allowing the GA to manage this space accordingly.  This will be well-documented as a contract between LL and the GA.
- Fee for sim move to the GA Reserve = $75usd ($L15,15000 as of today) ... this represents a 50% DISCOUNT rate extended to the GA.
***  IMPORTANT: this rate reduction is not an indefinite offer!  ALL sims/estates wishing to take advantage of this rate will need to notify ME by the end of the day NOVEMBER 10TH, 2011 ***
- After this deadline date, the normal fee rate (currently $150usd per sim) will apply for moving a sim into the Reserve.
- Going forward, the Reserve will be open for any/all interested GA sims and estates for resettling, but at the normal LL moving fee rate.
4)  There are some misconceptions floating around about this project:
- The GA is 'moving'.
No, actually the GA is expanding.  No one is being forced to move from their current location in the existing GA grid.  The Reserve represents an opportunity for all and         is an important piece of the GA long-term future.
- Consensus of the GA sim owners is needed to move forward.
No, as everyone is presented with this option, consensus would be unproductive and quite unnecessary.  The only changes which may be seen are that a neighbor has             made the decision to move to the Reserve (which, will be known as normal 'neighbor' permissions are necessary to move out/in).
- The GA is being 'split'.
No, as most residents know and believe, another location in SL is but a TP away.  The GA is a concept, a community and a manifestation of ideals surrounding the LGBT           presence in Second Life.  The team of volunteers (call it the Team, the Council, etc.) that currently promote and support the GA Owners, Clubs, Merchants and                             Sims/Estates will continue to do so in both the existing GA cluster area as well as the newly-established GA Reserve.
- There is no interest in a Reserve area.
False.  Already several estates have expressed interest in taking advantage of not only the benefits of settling within the Reserve, but also the DISCOUNT rate offered.
5)  Know that there is work involved in setting up this GA Reserve.  I am assembling a small team of dedicated GA Residents who will be volunteering their time to make sure this project is created thoughtfully and carefully and with as much foresight as possible.  If you are interested in learning and helping to create this new area, please let me know - working together is always important and a great way to make friends.
6)  MOVERS' SUMMARY:
- NOVEMBER 10TH, 2011 IS THE DEADLINE DATE to take advantage of the DISCOUNT rate.  Contact Me with your move request.
- IF you are considering this move to the Reserve, you will need to have verifiable 'neighbor' permissions to move.
- YOU will also be involved when it comes to choosing your estate/sim placement within the new Reserve area as soon as reasonably possible.  We will have a working               blank 'standard' Grid-area layout with which to work.
- Charges and costs associated with your move will be handled in your normal Account channels with LL.  Please take NO action on this until we have everything in place.
Finally, I would like to say that I believe strongly in bringing to the sim/estate owners ALL the options available to help YOU design and create YOUR Second Life experience as YOU see fit -  it’s just one of the benefits of being in the Archipelago.
I look forward to hearing from you and, as always, remain available for your questions.
Regards,
Garth Raleigh

A few days ago the adult sim Caicos appeared for the first time in the GA corner of the grid map. It's owner, Mikeyg24 Resident "Mike", introduces himself:

I found my way into SL only a relatively short time ago and I now wonder why it took me so long. But I'm fast making up for lost time. I'm generous, fair, fun loving and loyal to my friends. My avatar's character reflect the person behind it. In RL I own a small web design agency in the UK which I started in 2004. When I'm not working or spending time in SL I enjoy the company of my close friends with a beer in a traditional British pub.

Can you tell the readers a bit more about the name Caicos?

I named the sim after Caicos, an RL island in the British West Indies, north west of the French West Indies. It seemed the obvious choice given the sims location.

Is Caicos a part of the West Indies estate or more a partner of that estate ?

I like to think that Caicos is very much a part of the West Indies estate. The only difference being that I am the owner and manager of Caicos and Medhi Bury is the Owner of the other 6 regions in the West Indies Gay Islands. Before Caicos, I called the neighbouring sim, Gay Island Lagoon, my home for only a short period. But in that time I met some amazing people who I am now proud to call my friends. There is a true feeling of community among the residents across the islands.

Why have you chosen a tropical beach as main landscape?

I was drawn to the tropical theme of the West Indies estate. It is the perfect setting for fun, relaxation, and making new friends on the beach while watching breathtaking sunsets. A welcome contrast to RL rainy days here in the UK. Caicos borders Gay Island Lagoon and I wanted it to blend seamlessly with the original estate. An expansion of the estate rather than an evolution to a new and different theme, which would not have looked right given the sims perfect location. - "If it's not broken, don't fix it".

Your new sim is 1/2 marked yellow as for sale. What do you offer future residents?

A large part of Caicos is now my SL home and, yes, the remaining space is for sale. The weekly tier is set at the same rate as the other 6 islands in the estate. I offer future residents the chance to call a part of the West Indies Gay Island their SL home. To become part of our friendly and diverse community and make many new friends, as I have. Residents will have the space to express themselves while respecting the overall tropical theme. I also offer stability, my help and support, if and when required.

What are your plans for future?

If you're asking me if I am planning more new sims then my answer is no. My primary aim in SL is enjoyment and friendship, not business and profit. I want to contribute positively to the West Indies community, meet more new and interesting people, go to the theatre or dance the night away at in one of the many excellent clubs. I also want to explore more of the many weird and wonderful regions in SL.

Do you have a message for our readers?

Enjoy life, real and 'second' and when in SL come visit me on Caicos, I'd love to meet you.

Thank you Mike, have a great time with us and we are glad you added some more awesome looking islands in the Archipelago.

A message for only real party animals.
The calendar 2012 project is an enormous success, even breaks visitor records.
October 5 is Jerrod Rodenberger's RL birthday and he loves to see all his friends in the Engine for a special party. There is a contest with split prices and the winner will be Mr January. Jerrod himself will be the DJ and the party is from 7-10 PM. The theme is announced as Strip party. That means you all have to wear enough clothes to make it exciting and funny. It is not simple undressing, it is teasing, acting and have lots of fun. To get an idea, look at the comic. The photographer - Tom1 - will contact Mr January for a photoshoot. If you miss this party, you miss a group (strip) act. Here is your special taxi: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Titus%20Groan/160/214/25
Happy Birthday Jerrod ;) )
