‘What we call the beginning is often the end…..And to make an end is to make a beginning’ - T.S. Eliot

The end of the year, 2011 marks the end of a busy and active 6 months since the last activity report was filed.  The current Council Team was faced with the immediate challenges and turmoil of situations such as the sudden disappearance of multiple estates as they left for another grid, the ‘retirement’ of Fabrice Snook, the world economic situation (yes, it does impact SL), and the continuing uncertainty behind and subsequent shifting of the ‘appointed’ leadership of this second half-year Council Team of 2011.

As the last active administrative member of this current term of the Council Team, I have taken it upon myself to file this half-year report to better inform you on the status of activities and projects which fell into this last half of the year.

GROUPS:  As GA Groups manager/moderator, I am pleased to report that membership numbers have remained steady in both the GAY ARCHIPELAGO (2600 +-) group as well as the GA Events Info Group (733 +-).

The Gay Archipelago warmly welcomes two new sims, Pine Valley Resort and Pine Valley Lake to the Archipelago!

Today we welcome Geo McAuley, owner of the sims Pine Valley Resort and Pine Valley Lake -both recently settled in the new Gay Archipelago Reserve.  We caught up with Geo as he was preparing for his Opening Gala Event party this afternoon.

GR:  Geo, can you tell  us something  about your adventures in Second Life?

GM:  I started sl just exploring the various areas and learning the ways of the grid.  I have tried my hand at building, landscaping and owning SIMs. My first two years have been a roller coaster of experiences.   I am now putting all I have learned to create what I think are the most unique residential SIMs on the grid.  Pine Valley Resort is also the home of Ricochet's, one of the Premier Gay Country Music Venues in all of Second Life.

GR: Do you have an overall philosophy when it comes to Second Life and the time you spend inworld?

GM:  I come to second life to make true friends.  This is not always the easiest thing to do in this medium, but i never give up.  I want people to be happy and find my SIMs a safe haven from the hectic world of rl.  I have provided activities that you can enjoy wether by yourself or with friends.  We have Horseback riding, Ice Skating. and in the spring and summer, we will have canoe rides and hang gliding.  We also have numerous chat areas that can be used to chat with your friends.

GR:  What advice do you give new residents (noobs) when you are approached for help/assistance?

GM:  To live your second life to the fullest, that if you can dream it, you can do it.  I also stress, never give up.  Sometimes the game becomes too real, but there are always people here to help you through.  We are real people behind these avatars.

GR:  How would you describe Pine Valley Resort, Pine Valley Lake  and what goes on in those sims?

GM:  Pine Valley is a community set in the Colorado High country.  We have mountains, streams and lakes.  We are providing horseback riding, ice skating and free rent for the month of December.   I want to offer people a peaceful, tradional holiday season. Pine Valley SIMs will also change with the seasons to give a very special experience to the residents there.   We also are the home of Ricochet's, the hottest Gay Country Music venue on the Grid with the hottest cowboys!!!

GR:  What/who would you say is the one thing or person that inspires you to create the surroundings and events that take place on your sims?

GM:  I have always been inspired by Truck Meredith and Tymus Tenk who created Calas Ghaladhon SIMs.  I think they are the most creative guys in second life and can only hope to live up to their standards.  They strive to give people a great sl experience and that is also my goal.

GR:  You're freshly-settled in the new GA Reserve, but certainly not a stranger to the GA.  You brought your new sims into the GA - so, tell us what the attraction for you is to being in the Gay Archipelago?

GM:  I use to own a couple of SIMs in the GA and was very proud to be a part of the GA community.  I have since changed my venue and created Pine Valley to offer an alternative to the tropical theme residential SIM.  I want to bring special events back to the GA that are different and unique.  I want people to be entertained and I love being a part of the gay community here in second life.

GR: Do you have anything additional you would like to say to the Gay Archipelago Blog readers?

GM:  I would hope that you will come on down to Pine Valley, take a walk around and check us out.  We have a number of cabins for rent, so check them out, December rent is free so you can get a feel for the surroundings.  We also have special events planned for the future so stayed tuned.  Pine Valley SIMs are open to the public so feel free to hang in a stress free environment.  And don't forget the HOT! Cowboys at Ricochet's!!!!

Thanks for your time, Geo.   You are most welcome as a member of the Gay Archipelago!  I encourage eveyone to stop in to check out both beautiful sims Pine Valley Resort and Pine Valley Lake.  Please welcome Geo and the residents of the sims to the GA!

A of lot people visited the parties and events of Jacky & Infa during the time they joined the Gay Archipelago. Jacky is not hosting in Second Life anymore. Jacky is not sitting next to his husband Infa anymore in real life, assisting him during all those parties. A warm welcome when you entered the club and a big hug when you had to run back to real life.
There is going to be a special event in memory of Jacky on Saturday 6/8/11.
Infa is going to play Jacky's favourite music. The same set at two different times to allow his friends from all over the world to come and remember him with us.
1.00 - 3.00pm SLT and 5.00 - 7.00pm SLT
Location : Bacchus 2100 (80,16,24)
For more information : Esme Capelo.

For the first time, the GA Events Committee organizes 3 themed parties to celebrate Bastille day 2011 in 3 different themed venues decorated for this occasion.

Not to be missed on 14 July :

12am-2pm : Opening Party (DJ Seb). The party will be held @ The Bunker in Gay Fun World. In honor of the brave soldiers from around the world participating in the military parade held on the Champs Elysées in Paris, we recommend a military uniform.

2pm-4pm : Bal des Pompiers / Firemen's Bal (DJ HotBoy). The party will be held @ rendezvous. As a tradition firefighters invite residents of the villages and towns of France to join them to celebrate the Bastille day at their ball room. Come dance, have fun and, why not, find the fireman of your dreams.

4pm-6pm : Guillotine* Party (DJ Yifu). The party will be held @ Gay Riviera (inspired by the French Riviera). DJ yifu will make your head spin with an amazing set ! try to keep it on !

The Bastille Day is brought to you by the GA Events Committee : Thom Nexen & HunterTx

* The guillotine is a French-designed machine that was used in France for the formal application of the death penalty by beheading.
